Beginning to sound like a stuck record, but low cloud and drizzle all day. No visibility for the classic Tongariro crossing. The blue lake was a grey lake emerging through the mist and cloud. Rain was quite heavy at times. But ironically, I felt really happy. The moody weather fitted well with the volcanic landscape. Solo hiking is fitting well with my evolving inner landscape. There is so much more I could say about that. The rain turned cold in the afternoon and was glad to get to the Mangatepopo Hut, already nearly full and with the fire cozily lit. At that hut three years ago while doing the Tongariro northern circuit, I met TAs for the first time and doing the TA seemed such a big thing. Yet here I am 😊.
