Took the bus to Whatawhata to start there rather than doing a long 30km hike in the forecasted rain. Was joined by Justin, Sam and Chas. Ended up working with Chas for most of the day. Chas is a paramedic from California who had just started at Huntly. The weather was wild and very wet and was glad to get to the Karamu Homestead. Chas went on to the Kaniwhaniwha Campsite. Was glad to be out of the rain and had a lovely evening with Lucia and Stu.
